A wistfully nostalgic yet totally future-focused event exclusively for current Driftwood supporters
From 2004 to 2020 Trafalgar 24 was Driftwood Theatre’s signature gala event centred around new play creation. Every year, a crew of 24 theatre artists were given 24 hours to write, rehearse and perform six new plays set within the walls of Whitby’s very own 19th century Trafalgar Castle. All in time for a live audience – with cheese and wine in hand – to enjoy the brand new pieces of performance in nooks and crannies all over the castle.
This season, we’re rebooting Trafalgar 24 as a digital event; one that celebrates the 24hr festival that began Driftwood’s investment in new play development, and invites our supporters from across the province into the brilliant minds of three playwrights who’ve stayed and created at The Gillespie House in the last couple of years.
Driftwood’s digital pl@y_24 event will feature three brand new short plays, written by three GHPR artists, rehearsed and performed by three actors. 24hrs before the show, playwrights will be given prompts (sourced from our donors – that’s you!) which will guide their process and shape the work they create. Those who attend will also get a sneak peek into Driftwood’s 25/26 season, and early bird access to a special gift.
