Bah Humbug! Christmas Carol Cast Announced

With just over two weeks until William Shakespeare’s A Christmas Carol by Ian Doescher rings in the holiday season at Town Brewery in Whitby, Driftwood Theatre is thrilled to announce the cast for this exciting Play in a Pub.

Tackling the play’s 36 characters in performance are Driftwood audience favourites Richard Alan Campbell (Dora Award winner, veteran ensemble member for the legendary VideoCabaret; four seasons, Driftwood) as Scrooge, Steven Burley (founding company member, Driftwood; The 39 Steps, Bruce County Playhouse) as Benedick Cratchit/Prospero/Mercutio, and Madeleine Donohue (Dial M for Murder, Watermark Theatre; Midnight Madness, Port Stanley Festival Theatre; five seasons, Driftwood) as Falstaff/Benvolio/Lady Macbeth/Juliet. They are joined by longtime Driftwood friend and The Living Room (Oshawa) Executive Director Mary Krohnert as Beatrice Cratchit/Puck/Rosencrantz/Miranda and Driftwood newcomer and Dora Award winner Jamie Robinson (Risky Phil, Young People’s Theatre; The Comedy of Errors, Western Canada Theatre/Theatre Aquarius) as Ferdinand/Guildenstern/Romeo/Marlowe.

In true Play in a Pub style, audience members will be given an opportunity to play a role on stage through the Memorable Character Live Auction, featuring roles like Tiny Tim, Juliet’s husband Paris, the troubadour Balthasar, and Hamlet’s Dad (the ghost of Christmas future).

Just in time for the holidays, Driftwood Theatre presents a Christmas classic of Shakespearian proportions. With appearances by characters from Shakespeare’s most popular plays, William Shakespeare’s A Christmas Carol is an inventive, hilarious, and touching holiday story for the whole family inspired by the work of Charles Dickens and William Shakespeare. William Shakespeare’s A Christmas Carol will be performed for one night only, December 19, as part of Driftwood’s Play in a Pub reading series at Whitby’s Town Brewery.

When miserly theatre owner Ebenezer Scrooge puts the ‘humbug’ in Christmas, he’s transported on a redemptive journey to save his very soul. Haunted by the spirits of Christmas past (Puck), present (Falstaff) and future (Hamlet’s dad), Scrooge learns to appreciate the true spirit of the holiday season as only Shakespeare can imagine.

William Shakespeare’s A Christmas Carol comes from the creative mind of Ian Doescher, author of the equally mind-blowing William Shakespeare’s Star Wars series.

Carrying on Driftwood’s fine tradition of informal readings of plays over a pint, William Shakespeare’s A Christmas Carol is a holiday mash-up you don’t want to miss. This Play in a Pub is sure to be a jolly, interactive affair as audience members join Driftwood Theatre’s professional performers in reading, singing, and celebrating a holiday masterpiece.
