Driftwood Theatre’s BEYOND THE BARD PLAYWRIGHTS UNIT welcomes up to six playwrights annually to develop the short plays first created at Trafalgar 24. At the table for Driftwood’s 2021 BEYOND THE BARD PLAYWRIGHTS UNIT are six returning playwrights from Driftwood’s 2020 Trafalgar 24 festival.

Ellen Denny, Matthew Gorman, Rebecca Lashmar, Rabiya Mansoor and Ciaran Myers will work to develop short (1o minute) plays, while Resident Playwright Gloria Mok will develop a full-length play based on her jury-selected piece, Diminished.

The plays have been developed through a series of workshops taking place over the past summer, directed by Karthy Chin, Desiree Leverenz, and Natasha Mumba. Select plays will also been featured in our upcoming Digital Short Play Festival.

Driftwood’s 2021 Beyond the Bard Playwrights Unit is made possible with the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
