With Driftwood’s Trafalgar 24 festival of theatre creation only days away, we’re thrilled to finally announce the participating directors and actors of this year’s 24-hour festival.
Armed with scripts written mere hours before by participating playwrights, six directors and twelve actors will have only eight hours to rehearse their assigned plays for the evening’s public presentation. Leaping into the fray to spend the day working among the nooks and crannies of a 19th century castle are:
Directors: Carly Chamberlain (Plucked, SummerWorks 2016 NOW Magazine Outstanding Direction), Heather Davies (Ring of Fire, Calendar Girls, Grand Theatre, London; Shirley Valentine, Persephone Theatre), Sarah Kitz (One Short Sleepe, Shaw Festival; Antony & Cleopatra, Shakespeare in the Ruins), Mark McGrinder (Core Artist, Studio 180; The Jedi Doth Return, Driftwood Theatre), Sarah Phillips (10 seasons Festival Players of Prince Edward County) and Matthew Thomas Walker (Brave New World, Birth of Frankenstein, Litmus Theatre).
Peformers: Geoffrey Armour (The Taming of the Shrew, Driftwood Theatre), David Coomber (Wizard of Oz, Young People’s Theatre; Bullet for Adolf, Off-Broadway), Jennifer Dallas (Kittly-Bender, Kemi Dance; Ngizwise, Moving into Dance, Johannesburg), Christopher Darroch (eight seasons, Driftwood Theatre; Gone With The Wind, RMTC), Jessica Greenberg (Comedy of Errors, Julius Caesar, Canadian Stage; Core Artist, Studio 180), Jordin Hall (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Humber River Shakespeare), Ayesha Mansur Gonsalves (Laurier, Theatre New Brunswick), Drew O’Hara (The Taming of the Shrew, Driftwood Theatre; A Different Kind of Job, Theatre Aquarius), Siobhan Richardson (The Taming of the Shrew, Driftwood Theatre; Dancock’s Dance, Hogtown Collective), Fiona Sauder (The Taming of the Shrew, Driftwood Theatre; Peter Pan, Bad Hats Theatre), Hallie Seline (Twelfth Night, Shakespeare BASH’d; Jonas & Barry in the Home (Bluewater Summer Playhouse), and Adriano Sobretodo Jr. (The Jungle Book, Manitoba Theatre for Young People; The Container, Theatre Fix).
Trafalgar 24 is Driftwood Theatre’s annual twenty-four hour play creation event, hosted in Whitby’s historic (and haunted!) Trafalgar Castle. Six teams of one playwright, one director, and two actors have just twenty-four hours to write, direct and star in six brand new, site-specific works of theatre.
