On Friday, November 25, Driftwood Theatre was awarded a considerable honour at the first ever Durham Art of Transition Creative Awards, held at the Durham College/University of Ontario Institute of Technology Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre and hosted by Durham Tourism and The Regional Municipality of Durham as part of the Durham Tourism Summit.
Driftwood’s Artistic Director, D. Jeremy Smith, was on hand to accept both a nomination and the award on behalf of Driftwood for ‘Best Entertainment in Any Medium’.
The Durham Art of Transition Creative Awards (DATCA) celebrate people and businesses that are contributing to the growth and creative economy in Durham Region. The award was accompanied by an elegant statue, designed by Durham artist Edward Falkenberg, and was presented to Driftwood by Roger Anderson, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for Durham Region.
In an interview with the Durham This Week, Mr. Smith indicated that he accepted the award on behalf of , “the hundreds of actors and technicians and partners who have contributed to [The Bard's Bus Tour].”
Congratulations then, to all of the artist, technicians, administrators, partners and supporters who have worked so diligently over the past 18 years to nurture Driftwood’s goal of providing the best accessible theatre to communities in Durham and across Ontario. This recognition would not have been possible without your incredible efforts.
