Shakespeare's Shorts

Immerse your students in Shakespeare's world, his poetry, characters and stories by booking one of Driftwood Theatre's Shakespeare's Shorts Workshops; providing them with the tools they need to make the most of their Shakespeare experience.

Driftwood offers five 70-minute workshops, each geared towards guiding students' towards a deeper understanding of Shakespeare and his plays. Our workshops put students front and centre and get them on their feet experiencing Shakespeare through lively and interractive exercises and activities.

Shakespeare's World
Students get a crash course in what it was like to be an actor in Shakespeare's day (complete with Shakespeare Dodge-ball) and receive an introduction to the basics of the ‘sonnet'.

Shakespeare's Language
With the assistance of a jump-rope, 'Shakespeare's Language' unlocks the secrets of Shakespeare's use of iambic pentameter and makes understanding the rhythm's of Shakespeare's text as easy as singing a song.

Shakespeare's Characters
After a whirlwind introduction to the origins of Commedia d'el arte, stock characters and the importance of social status (and subverting it) in Shakespeare's plays, students are guided through the rehearsal of a scene from a Shakespeare play of your choice.

Shakespeare Improv
Shakespeare's plays are all about epic themes and dramatic turns of events. Students experience it all in this advanced workshop where they creatively improvise their own 5-act Shakespearean comedy.

* Shakespeare Improv workshops are suitable for advanced English/Drama students who have extensive experience with reading or performing Shakespeare and/or improvisational theatre.

Shakespeare Master Class
Give your advanced drama students a crash-course in getting to the heart of Shakespeare's most famous soliloquies. Our facilitators provide your students with the tools they need to mine Shakespeare's text for every moment.

* Shakespeare Master Class workshops are suitable for advanced Drama students who have extensive experience with performance.

Bringing 'Shakespeare's Shorts' into your classroom is just a phone call or an email away!

Each workshop is led by a pair of professional facilitators, can be booked for up to 30 students, and has a duration of 70 minutes.

All workshops are $350 (bookings outside of the City of Toronto are subject to a mileage fee of $0.35/km). Discount package rates available (call for details).
