Schedule*
2:00 pm: Shakespeare's Shorts Workshops
Bring the whole family down for an active and fun series of
workshops that are like a crash-course in Shakespeare history and
his plays, featuring: Shakespeare Dodge-Ball, Iambic Pentameter
Jump-rope, and the 10-minute King Lear starring you!

3:00 pm: Did That Really Hurt? The Anatomy of a Fight Scene
Get the goods on what really makes a Shakespeare fight scene
come to life, as we demonstrate a behind-the-scenes look at
the climactic duel between two brothers from the final scene of
King Lear.

4:00 pm: The Heenan Blaikie Shakespeare Symposium Series:
KING LEAR THROUGH THE LENS OF ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE.
It was only 300 years after William Shakespeare wrote King Lear
that Alois Alzheimer revolutionized the world with his discovery that
certain mental illness (in this case, early onset dementia) could be
clinically related to physical deterioration of the brain. And yet,
Lear's tragic descent into madness bears considerable resemblance
to what we now commonly refer to as Alzheimer's Disease.

Before you experience Driftwood Theatre's particular take on the play,
join our panel of scholars, doctors and artists for a lively discussion
about what it means to explore King Lear from this decidedly
modern perspective.

Panelists: Professor Jill L. Levenson (UofT),
RH Thomson (theatre director & actor),
Christopher Kelk (actor, King Lear, Driftwood Theatre),
Mercedes Hughes (Alzheimer Society of Toronto).

and how you can get involved by visiting www.alzheimerontario.org.
